This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and services that let you build, and fully understand, software projects you create (the "Service").

By using our Service, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information we collect

We only collect the minimum information necessary to maintain the website and facilitate the delivery of the functionality there, including:

• Account Information: Birth year, email address, and login credentials.
• License & Purchase Information: Records of the licenses (Studio, add-ons, and Gift Codes) associated with your account, and transaction records related to your purchases and returns. If you purchase a Gift Code without creating an account, we still collect the email address you provide and create a record of that purchase.
• Trial Information: Your email address is retained as Account Information above. Separately, to enforce our one-free-trial-per-email-address policy (including after an account is deleted), we also store a one-way cryptographic hash of the email address used to start a trial.
• Billing Information: Payment information is collected and processed by our third-party payment provider. We do not store your full credit or debit card numbers.
• Technical Information: Limited information automatically sent by your browser (such as IP address, browser type, and device type). We may use this information, now or in the future, to help administer license limits, such as confirming that only one device is actively in use under a license at a time.
• Cookies & Analytics: We use basic cookies and Google Analytics to understand site usage and improve performance.
• Gallery Content: If you choose to publish a project to our ROM Gallery, we collect and publicly display the content you submit, along with any name or handle you choose to associate with it.

We do not collect sensitive personal information such as social security numbers, health data, or biometric data.

2. How we use your information

We use your information only to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
• Process your purchases, license activations, Gift Codes, and returns.
• Detect and prevent abuse of our free trial (for example, using the hashed email address described above to check whether an email address has already received a free trial).
• Administer license limits, including confirming that a license is being used consistent with our Terms of Service, such as the one-active-device limit described there.
• Communicate with you about your account, support, purchases, or important updates.
• Send you optional marketing emails (you may opt out at any time).

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. It is not our practice to use content you publish to the ROM Gallery for advertising or marketing purposes without your express, opt-in consent.

3. Gallery & public content

If you choose to submit a project to our ROM Gallery, your submission (along with any name or handle you choose to display with it) may be made publicly visible to other users and visitors to our website. Please do not include personal information in a Gallery submission that you do not want to be public. We review submissions before publishing them, but we do not control how third parties who view the Gallery may further use or share published content.

4. Children's privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.

Purchases may only be made by users who are 18 or older, or by a parent or guardian on behalf of a minor, as described in our Terms of Service.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information without consent, please contact us at privacy@writenrun.com and we will promptly delete it.

5. Cookies & analytics

We use cookies to help operate the Service and remember your preferences.

We also may use analytics to understand how our site is used. This understanding helps us maintain and improve the quality of the site and the service we provide. You can opt out of analytics by contacting us using the contact information above.

6. Your choices and rights

You may:

• Access and update your account information at any time.
• Request deletion of your account by contacting us. Deleting your account ends any licenses associated with it, as described in our Terms of Service. We retain limited information after deletion where required for tax, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, billing records from our payment processor, email correspondence, and the trial-eligibility hash described in Section 1 above).
• Opt out of marketing emails by clicking the "unsubscribe" link in any email.
• Request removal of a published ROM Gallery submission by contacting us.

7. How we protect your information

We use reasonable security measures, including encryption, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we make no guarantees.

8. Sharing information with service providers

We may share your information with trusted service providers who help us operate the Service (such as payment processors and hosting providers). These providers are only authorized to use your information as necessary to provide their services to us.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the new policy on this page and update the "Effective Date." Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted means you accept those changes.
